Why do I need an eye exam?

Eye conditions, diseases, and other health concerns are easier to treat in the early stages. An exam can detect problems before they produce more symptoms and progress. Children need regular exams as early as 3 years old and biannual check-ups after age 6. Adults who are over the age of 60 need yearly or more frequent exams if they wear corrective lenses or have a family history of eye problems.

What do I need to bring to an eye exam?

In addition to your insurance card, bring any current prescriptions and eyewear. You may want to bring a pair of sunglasses if dilation is necessary during the visit. Along with that, you may want to arrange for someone to drive you home.

Why do I need my eyes dilated? 

Having your eyes dilated makes it easier for our optometrist to examine the inside of your eye. We need to measure the eye pressure and evaluate the health of your eyes. The procedure is painless but can make you sensitive to light for up to six hours.

Will my insurance cover the cost of an exam? 

Some vision insurance will cover the cost of annual eye exams. Your insurance policy can provide you with information about coverage.

Can I complete an eye exam online?

Tests for visual field, color perception, and corneal curvature can be done online. However, a comprehensive eye exam needs to be done in person for a full evaluation.
