What Is Floar?

Floaters usually appear as black or gray-colored spots and seem to move as the person looks around. Sometimes they even look like spiderwebs. Most people develop them as a result of aging. However, the cause of floaters is caused by the vitreous fluid inside the eye clumping together. This process casts a shadow in the retina, and floater appears in the person's line of vision.

Do I Need Eye Care for My Floaters?

While this is usually a common condition that doesn't require immediate treatment, it can also be serious. If the number of floaters increases dramatically, or you notice any changes in your vision, you need to contact our optometry team immediately. An instance where your floater may be serious is if you see a flash of light or have trouble with your peripheral vision. Some common occurrences of floaters include:

  • Spots that move with your vision
  • Strings or specks that seem to float
  • Seeing spots against a background
  • Shapes and strings that settle below the line of vision

While these occurrences are usually not serious, it's important to mention them to our optometrists during your next exam. Request an appointment if the activity suddenly increases or you lose some of your vision.
