Contact Lens Fittings

Contact Lens Fittings from an Optometrist on Our Optometry Team

Proper application of contact lenses starts first with an exam to confirm the type of lenses needed and then a fitting to make sure the lenses will sit comfortably and not cause further eye issues. Ill-fitting lenses can trigger irritation and infections, so it’s important to make sure your lenses are fitted correctly. We at Eyes on Hayden in Scottsdale, AZ, are here to help.

Contact Lenses

The standard approach to many things to make them as efficient as possible. This may involve a one-size-fits-all methodology. However, when it comes to contact lenses, that is the last thing a patient wants. People’s eyes are different. They vary for a number of reasons, ranging from size to eye conditions. Because of that, contact lens fitting is essential.

Contact lenses need to be the correct shape and curvature. Otherwise, they risk scratches, infection and irritation.

Contact Lenses Provide Personal Freedom

One reason to switch to contact lenses is to avoid wearing eyeglasses. Both instruments provide the same benefit in terms of vision clarity, but contact lenses allow a natural appearance versus wearing glasses, which creates a different look for many wearers. Additionally, eyeglasses can be annoying at times, having to pull them out to see clearly, depending on the need at the time. Contact lenses can avoid this altogether.

The Fitting Process

The process of contact lens fitting starts with an optometrist measuring the patient’s eye. Each patient might have a slightly different measurement so there’s no standard fit for everyone.

In some cases, a patient may have a very difficult specification, such as one that is caused by a special eye condition not met by typical measurements. In these cases, an eye doctor on our optometry team can consider using different types of contacts to help compensate for the special situation that the patient might be in.

Once the measurements are taken, the test lenses are developed and tested as a trial pair on the patient after production. A patient will likely be scheduled for follow-up visits to confirm the lenses are working properly.
